Author Profile
Euan Craig

I started working part-time in potteries in Australia in 1978, at age 14, and graduated from Latrobe University with a BA in Ceramics in 1985. I've been a full-time professional potter ever since, coming to Mashiko, Japan, in 1990 to study in the "Mingei" discipline and becoming a "Deshi" apprentice to Tatsuzo Shimaoka, National Living Treasure, in 1991. I established my own pottery studio and wood kiln in Mashiko in 1994 and relocated to Minakami in Gunma Prefecture after the triple disasters of 2011. I wood-fire exclusively and use no fossil fuels in the home or studio.
