Help us preserve pottery traditions and cultivate contemporary clay stories.
We’re raising money to make a difference. Studio Potter has multiple initiatives and programs that need your support. Your donation will directly impact and support the following:
THE MARY BARRINGER WRITERS INITIATIVE
This initiative provides author honorariums and cultivates a new generation of writers in the ceramic arts. Did you know authors only receive a $100 honorarium? You read that right, and we need your help to do better! We want your donation to go directly into the hands of our great thinkers and makers; we need help providing an honorarium that properly accounts for the time, mastery, and critical content our authors provide. $6000 will pay for a full year of authorship, but we want to increase the honorarium, and we aspire to raise $12,000 for our writer's initiative.
THE GERRY WILLIAMS COMMEMORATIVE ARCHIVE INITIATIVE
As the founding editor of the Studio Potter journal, Gerry Williams profoundly impacted the international ceramic community. This initiative was established in his name so that our archives, which represent his major contribution to the field of ceramics, could be cared for, preserved, and, most importantly, accessible online. Studio Potter has 2480 articles from the print years 1972 -2019 that still need to be digitized. We estimate 2200 hours of work will be needed towards our ongoing effort to improve the quality and accessibility of our archives.
THE ANNUAL WRITERS RETREAT
Since 1972, ceramic artists and writers have looked to Studio Potter to cultivate and share the stories that make us uniquely interconnected – inspiring conversations and supporting each other as they have worked through their own creative legacies. To help fulfill Studio Potter’s purpose of operating as a communal voice, and representing the multiplicity of contemporary and historical ceramics, we invite four emerging and four established authors to share in a week-long writing retreat. Your donation helps to reduce inequality for emerging authors, and we aspire to fully fund all participating authors' time at the retreat (food, housing, and local travel).
STUDIO POTTER – THE PODCAST
We are creating a monthly podcast that celebrates the voices of past print editions and contemporary storytellers. We need your support and your donation to go directly into the hands of our contributing storytellers. From production costs to honorariums, we aspire to raise $5000 for the podcast.
