The deeper aim of this question – of gatekeeping – I think is also about something we all know as a truth about this niche world. It is built on the bones of an older set of rules and social contracts; if you behave in a certain way and kowtow to a sometimes strict, sometimes loosely defined, and largely chauvinist power system, you can occupy space and fire yours and others' pots. The “who participates” and “who benefits” more often in our generation are rightfully bringing this into question because of the recent past.
